Endocrinology Masterclass

Launched on July 23, 2021, the Endocrinology Masterclass is a national educational initiative providing practical, clinically relevant training for DM/DNB trainees and early-career endocrinologists. Supported by SUN Pharmaceuticals, the program is delivered through fortnightly clinical grand rounds and inter-institutional quiz sessions.

The Masterclass strengthens clinical decision-making through complex case-based discussions across the full spectrum of endocrinology, while also enhancing presentation, communication, and patient-interaction skills through student-led sessions. Engagement with distinguished experts fosters strong clinical foundations, professional confidence, and peer collaboration.

Since inception, 80 sessions have been conducted with an average attendance of 112 participants, involving 185+ faculty and training 670+ DM/DNB fellows nationwide, demonstrating the program’s scale and sustained impact.

Project Execution

The Endocrinology Masterclass is guided by a Scientific Advisory Board, currently comprising a Program Chair and five senior, nationally recognized endocrinology experts. This governance structure ensures strong academic oversight and alignment of session content with evolving clinical practice. The program is delivered through a fortnightly, webinar-based format, with sessions scheduled on Friday or Saturday evenings to enable trainee participation while accommodating clinical responsibilities.

The Masterclass comprises two core session formats: Clinical Grand Rounds (CGRs) and Inter-Institutional Quiz sessions. CGRs follow a standardized, student-led, case-based learning approach, featuring presentations of real-world clinical cases by trainees, guided by an expert panel of renowned endocrinology leaders. This format aims to enhance understanding of the diverse clinical manifestations of endocrine disorders through structured discussion and expert mentorship. In contrast, the Inter-Institutional Quiz sessions are theme-based, expert-moderated academic competitions designed to reinforce core concepts, stimulate active learning, and promote healthy academic engagement among trainees.

Participant registration is facilitated through a targeted institutional outreach strategy, focusing on accredited DM/DNB endocrinology medical colleges and early-career endocrinologists affiliated with hospitals and academic institutions. Registrations are centrally managed to ensure appropriate participant profiling and balanced institutional representation. The program is implemented in phases, allowing for gradual expansion of the participant base. Systematic post-session feedback enabled iterative refinement of session formats and the progressive inclusion of advanced topics. To date, the program has successfully completed five phases, each contributing to enhanced academic depth, faculty engagement, and inter-institutional collaboration. Impact

Since its inception on July 23, 2021, the program has achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully conducting 80 sessions, each with an average attendance of 112 participants. The program features the expertise of over 185 faculty members contributing to the training and education of more than 670 DM/DNB fellows from different institutions nationwide. Our fellows find this to be an excellent learning platform, providing them with the confidence to tackle challenging cases using insights from masters in endocrinology. Additionally, several case topics were revisited, as per the trainees’ requests. The program has been highly valued by DM/DNB residents and early-career endocrinologists, serving as a valuable resource. Moreover, faculty members appreciated the program structure, enabling them to share their wisdom by uncovering hidden insights through an interactive, case-based format to analyse and diagnose complex scenarios.
